Business Member Highlight: Meet Humdrum Paper
We had the pleasure of interviewing Brittany and Rob Meronek, creators of Humdrum Paper — a paper goods company based in Tampa that offers a large collection of die-cut bookmarks and lots of other funny wordplay products.
The Story of Humdrum Paper
Humdrum Paper is a Tampa-based paper goods company born from a blend of creativity, humor and a dash of serendipity. Founded eight years ago, the company has grown from a small hobby into a thriving business known for its quirky, wordplay-inspired products, such as greeting cards, bookmarks, totes and stickers. Humdrum Paper’s unique offerings are a testament to Brittany’s and Rob’s vision of infusing everyday items with fun and joy, making them functional and whimsical. There’s a sense of humor behind every Humdrum Paper product, such as their best-selling stick of butter bookmark.
Brittany shared that Humdrum Paper started as an unexpected venture. “My background is advertising in marketing, so, connecting with people and being clever in an artistic way. Humdrum started as a happy accident from a hobby. I was pregnant with my second child, creating art for a friend who sold it at local markets. Before I knew it, I was formalizing the business, and wholesale orders started coming in,” she recalled. What began as a small greeting card line expanded into a wide range of products, with die-cut bookmarks now one of the company’s signature items.
Brittany’s deep-rooted connections to the local community fueled the company’s growth. Early on, Humdrum Paper gained momentum through participation in local markets, such as the Indie Flea. “The local community is really the reason Humdrum went from a hobby to a business,” Brittany shared. “We’ve always printed locally, whether it’s screen printers in Orlando, Riverview or St. Pete. Even our die-cut bookmarks only exist because a local printer was willing to workshop the whole product with me.” These personal and professional relationships have been integral to the company’s success. The commitment to nurturing local relationships and valuing collaboration has helped Humdrum Paper stand out in an increasingly digital world.
Why Humdrum Paper Banks With Grow Financial
When choosing a financial partner for her business, Brittany felt that Grow was a natural fit. Brittany and Rob were already credit union members in their personal capacities, so they knew where to turn when Humdrum Paper evolved from a hobby into a business. “Opening a business account with Grow was so easy. I walked in expecting a lot of hoops to jump through, but it was simple to open my business account. That day felt like the moment I became a real business owner. It was really encouraging.” For Brittany, Grow provided the support she needed without the typical barriers of traditional banking, making it the perfect place for her small business to flourish.
Humdrum Paper’s journey reminds us that success often stems from the power of creativity and meaningful community connections. What began as a small, playful project has grown into a brand that brings joy and laughter to customers worldwide.
Thank you, Brittany and Rob, for sharing your story with us!
