Grow Financial Expands to New Location in West River Area of Tampa

We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of a new Grow store located in the heart of Tampa in West River. Scheduled to open by early 2024, our West River store will bring increased access to financial services and resources to area residents.

The West River neighborhood includes about 150 acres of land along the western banks of the Hillsborough River and extends from Downtown Tampa to Tampa Heights. The Tampa Housing Authority’s West River Redevelopment Plan includes several mixed-use retail and residential spaces throughout the area, including Boulevard Tower 1, where we’ll be located. That’s just north of I-275 and a few blocks west of Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. We’re so excited to join the community in the upcoming months!

Why West River

This expansion stems from our unwavering commitment to our mission of serving people over profit. The West River area of Tampa has been economically underserved for years, lacking access to convenient banking locations. In a focus group hosted by Grow in early 2023, residents of West Tampa told us that they’ve faced obstacles accessing essential financial services, causing many people to rely on check-cashing services and payday lenders charging high interest rates.

Credit unions can play a vital role in helping families succeed by building generational wealth, assisting small businesses and helping to strengthen communities. We are deeply committed to building strong, lasting connections with the communities we serve, and it’s our goal to empower individuals on their financial journeys. We’re eager to be part of the West River neighborhood and look forward to working together to make a positive impact.

While Jason Moss, Chief Retail Officer, prepared to sign the lease on our new West River store, several community members stopped by to show their enthusiasm and support. One local resident remarked, “Thank you for coming to this area. There aren’t many other banks around here!”

Moss shared, “We are thrilled and humbled by the positive response and excitement from the community so far! We look forward to opening soon and providing much-needed banking services to the currently underserved community of West Tampa.”
